PUBLIC SPACE BRANDING: THE FRICK

MARCH 2025

For a school project, I redesigned The Frick Pittsburgh, a historic museum and cultural center in the city’s Point Breeze neighborhood that blends art, nature, and history. My branding concept captures its timeless elegance with a modern sensibility, reflected in a new logo, updated signage, and gift shop products — all unified by the original concept and celebrating The Frick as both a window into the past and a place to make memories today.

THE PROCESS:

MOODBOARD AND INSPIRATION:

For my project, I chose to redesign a public space from my hometown called The Frick Pittsburgh. The Frick Pittsburgh is a historic museum and cultural center located in the city’s Point Breeze neighborhood. It features the former estate of industrialist Henry Clay Frick, including Clayton, his meticulously preserved Gilded Age mansion. The site also houses a collection of fine and decorative arts, vintage automobiles, and rotating exhibitions. With its lush gardens, art museum, and educational programs, The Frick Pittsburgh offers visitors a glimpse into the region’s industrial past and artistic heritage. In developing the branding, I aimed to capture the essence of The Frick — a place where art, nature, and history come together. For my inspiration, I took a look at a lot of classic, yet modern designs in order to incorporate and old and new aspects of The Frick into this branding.

LOGO MARK:

I chose to make the main logo a dark green color, reminiscent of all of the greenery and nature at The Frick. The typeface is classic, yet modern and decorative, yet simple which makes this logo the perfect blend of old and new.
